In the first college showcase event of the spring, the 01B Black & 00/01B Blue attended the APC Premier Cup in central Delaware. The event took place at the brand new DE Turf complex.
Craig Barclay, head coach of the 01B Black team was very happy with the team’s game 2 & 3 performances. In game 1, the boys were a bit rusty, while still being a bit unlucky to let up a late goal losing 1-0. In game 2, FCUSA dominated in a 4-0 result late saturday night under the lights. Sunday, in a very tight game, forward Adam Hazel scored 5 minutes into the 2nd half. The boys defended well for the duration of the match to finish with a 1-0 result,. The 6 points put then at the top of the table, only goal differential would place them 2nd in the group.
After an undefeated Fall showcase season, the 00/01B Blue faced some of top competition in the region at APC Premier Cup. In game one, FCUSA gave up a deflected goal in the last kick of the first half. Keiran Ouellette scored in the 2nd half to tie the game but Delaware United would score on a corner kick with 5 minutes to go, losing 2-1.
Game 2 was against US Club National Champions SJEB Rush, where FCUSA would give a fantastic effort, but again allowing a late goal losing 2-1. In game 3, FCUSA were organized for 75 minutes and kept the score 0-0 against a very talented Cedar Stars Newark team, until the defense cracked and allowed 2 goals in the final 5 minutes, losing 2-0. Coach Nash was proud of the boys after battling some of the best teams on the east coast and excited about the lessons learned to set them up for a successful spring season.
