Steel Soccer/Steel United hires Paul Payne as Director of College Development Program
CEDAR KNOLLS, NJ – Steel Soccer, the leading youth soccer organization in the country, announces the hiring of former USC (formerly NSCAA) President and Bloomsburg Head Men’s Soccer Coach, Paul Payne, as the Director of College Development Program.
Paul, a 27-year veteran of college coaching, joins a growing list of highly successful coaches and administration staff in the rapidly growing Steel United club. Paul has an extensive network of coaches, colleagues, and administrators in the college athletic world and Steel United couldn’t have wished for a more highly qualified and well-respected individual to fill this role. Paul currently serves as a Senior National Staff Coach for the United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA), as well as the Region II Technical Director for the USC. He holds a United States Soccer Federation “A” License and an NSCAA Premier Coaching Badge. Payne served as the vice-president of Education to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America before serving as president in 2011. Also, as a member of Division II Men’s Soccer Committee, Paul serves as Chair of the Northeast Region and sits as one of eight on the national committee overseeing D-II Men’s Soccer and their national championship.
Steel United have over 3,330 players across the country, including over 1,200 student-athletes of high school age that Paul’s expertise will be invaluable to in guiding them through the program. There will be a series of topics and modules for players and parents throughout the year to guide, aid, and help players and parents as they navigate the search for a college program, as well as interactive time with Paul for the Steel United players and parents. The program will be exclusively for Steel United players and will be accessible via presentations, webinars, podcasts, videos and in-person seminars throughout the year and information will be relevant to freshman, sophomore, junior and senior players.
“I am delighted to welcome Paul on board as our College Development Program Director; his expertise will be extremely valuable to our student-athletes and parents. The college search is one of the most important and difficult times for all involved. With Paul driving the College Development Program and the continued education in this space for our coaches, we aim to arm our players and parents with all the information they need, to make the best decision possible for their child, whether that is playing in college or not”, said Steel United National Director of Operations, Martin Brown.
Paul added, “I want to thank everyone at Steel Soccer for giving me this opportunity to help our young student-athletes prepare for their future. The program Steel Soccer is developing can help guide one through the college recruitment process as well as identifying one’s best post-high school options, both academically and athletically. After 27 years in the college game, I hope to be an asset and resource to the players and their families and am excited to be part of Steel Soccer.”
